"A Mother's Journey" is a lyrical composition for orchestra by W. David Hedrick with the subtitle "Remembering the Lives of Mothers." It is dedicated to the composer's mother and is a commemorative piece for all mothers who dutifully led their lives and enriched the lives of others. It is an 8 minute work and requires a Harp (or Piano), solo oboe, solo English horn, bassoon solo, and the usual orchestral instrumentation. The set of orchestral parts may be obtained separately on this website. The composition is elegantly written in for sections or moods: 1. A Journey of Fulfillment; 2. Struggles on the Journey; 3. Peace; 4. The Journey Home. The composition is Romantic in nature and will create mental images for the audience and help them reflect on the lives of their own mothers or other important women in their lives.
