“There is a Balm in Gilead” is a well-known traditional Black-American spiritual. The lyrics of this tune are interpreted as a spiritual medicine that is able to heal Israel (and sinners in general). This arrangement is for string quartet/ensemble and is reminiscent of the various choral arrangements of this tune. The music is intermediate in difficulty and suitable for middle school, high school, college, and adult groups.
