"When the Morning Comes" is a Southern Melody and arranged as a gospel song. The vocal parts are mostly 2-part with a 4-part chorus. The S/A have the opening melody while the T/B sing a unison descant which transitions into an SATB chorus. The process is reversed in the second stanza with a modulation. It is an enjoyable piece to sing and is suitable for most church choirs with its easy melody and jaunty rhythm. The accompaniment is typical gospel style and can be played by most church pianists. It is also suitable for high school, middle school, college, and gospel choirs. It is appropriate as a concert piece demonstrating the southern style of gospel music.
